None Like Him

Bible in a Year : Psalms 91-93, Romans 15:1-13

I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no saviour.
Isaiah 43:11

Today's Scripture & Insight : Isaiah 43:10-13

Bao’ai offered prayers to idols, like everyone else in his village. Over time his family spiralled into chaos and sadness. His wife left, and his son became a drug addict. The idols weren’t helping one bit.

When the Bible was translated into Bao’ai’s language, he finally met the One who had announced through the prophet Isaiah, “Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me” (Isaiah 43:10), and “I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no saviour” (v. 11). “When I didn’t have a Bible, I lacked a clear understanding of God’s will and guidance,” Bao’ai recalls. “Relying solely on my own thoughts and ideas, I made decisions that were not pleasing to [Him].” But as Bao’ai put his faith in the one true God, his life changed profoundly; there was even healing and reconciliation in his family. Reading the Bible made him feel like he’d “awakened from the darkness”.

We too find ourselves slipping into darkness and confusion when the Bible isn’t at the heart of our relationship with God, relying on our own misguided instincts like Bao’ai did. But as we take time to read it, we marvel over truths such as: “I am God. Yes, and from ancient days I am he” (vv. 12-13). Nothing compares to Him. For who can reverse His words or actions (v. 13)? He alone gives us light and hope for each day.

Reflect & Pray
When are you tempted to rely on your own instincts rather than the guidance of Scripture? What hope and clarity from today’s passage is God’s Spirit prompting you with?

Dear Father, You alone are God. From everlasting to everlasting, there is no-one like You. And yet You promise to walk beside me today. Amazing! May You receive all praise and glory and honour.

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
