A Serious Question

He said to them, “How can they say that the Christ is the Son of David? Now David himself said in the Book of Psalms: ‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”’ Therefore David calls Him ‘Lord’; how is He then his Son?”
Luke 20:41–44

A Serious Question
With simplicity and purity of wisdom the Lord Jesus had silenced the questioning of the chief priests, scribes, and Sadducees. Now He Himself asks a question of most vital consequence which they are unable to answer, but which they ought to have known from their Old Testament Scriptures. Why did the scribes say that Christ, the Messiah, was David’s son, even though David himself in Psalm 110:1 plainly calls the Messiah “my Lord”? There could be no doubt of the application of that Scripture, and the scribes could not dispute it, yet they had no response.

The precious fact is that both are true: He is not only the Offspring of David, but also the Root of David (Rev. 22:16). As Man, He is David’s Son, but as God He is David’s Lord. Though as Man He came from David, yet since He is God over all, it is just as true that David came from Him. Certainly, His eternal glory as God is by far the most important, yet this had been passed over and ignored by the scribes. This same tragic ignorance is repeated today, even by many who claim to be Christians. They recognize that Jesus is indeed a great man, but forget—and in many cases even strongly deny—that He is God manifested in flesh. The Lord’s question should stir every such soul to realize that he needs to learn from the Word of God. If Christ is David’s Lord, how is He then his Son? Let men face this question seriously.

In Christ, the faithful Son of Man, the holy One,

There shines a glory greater far than pure humanity:

The glory of the living God, the glory of the Father’s Son

Whose majesty and love span all the ages of eternity.

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

ATTENTIVE TO THE MASTER'S INSTRUCTIONS?

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by someone you claim to be your guide or guardian. Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
