Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, ... Numbers 6:2-5,8 What is a Nazarite? The very word means separation, and it applies to both men and women. True victory for God’s people must be along the lines of Nazariteship, separation from all the things that the world counts as absolutely essential. God cannot use the flesh! Sometimes you will hear it said that a strong will is a good thing and than plain speech is a good thing. I fear that in a large majority of cases they are the result of the indulgence of pride or the absence of self control. I care not how truthful one speaks: if it is not by the power of the Spirit of God, it is fleshly will. Nazariteship today calls for the absence of all that. Modern day Nazariteship was learned of by Paul;. God taught him, “My power is perfected in weakness,” and he learned that “when I am weak, then am I powerful,” (2 Cor 12:9-10). He learned that God can only use subjection of Himself, weakness in self, and dependence upon Him only. However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a positive thing that associated Him with god. Think of that blessed One who humbled Himself so that we might be associated with the Father and Himself. So he asked, “Am I a dog?” The first lesson we have to learn from this story...More |
