Near us lived a very lonely man...

But when the kindness and the love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3:4–5

Near us lived a very lonely man. People called him Badinguet. What he lived on, no one could say exactly – perhaps things caught from hunting or fishing. In any case, he didn’t have much.

He was already old and no longer worked. Or maybe he’d never had a regular job. He often stood in his doorway and watched the passers-by. But no one stopped to talk to him.

Only an old Christian would sometimes speak a few kind and caring words to him every now and then. He also tried to draw his attention to the love of God. But Badinguet always responded with an indifferent smile.

Then the old Christian man died. Until then, Badinguet had never set foot in a church or chapel. Now, however, he felt obliged to attend the funeral of the only person who had shown him sincere interest.

The preacher spoke of Jesus, the Saviour, who had come from heaven to share in the experiences of mankind. He read a story from the Bible that spoke of the fate of a poor blind man (John 9).

Badinguet also heard how the Son of God, in His love for us, went all the way to the cross to die for our sins. He came to understand that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin (1 John 1:7).

Touched to his core, he opened his heart to the goodness and love of the Saviour-God.

Today’s reading: Job 33:1-22 · Acts 15:30-41

BE TRULY ROOTED

You can overcome the attacks of the devil if you can simply obey God's Word. Before taking on the devil, be sure of your salvation because the salvation of many today is questionable. Many are pretenders and have really never answered the altar call for salvation at any time. At the time they should be answering...More

YOUR FIRST LOVE

As a Christian, your heart ought to be aglow with genuine love for Christ, unless you are not genuinely saved as a result of having not truly repented from your sins even though you have confessed Jesus. At the new birth experience, the Holy Spirit regenerates our spirit and fills it with deep and pure love for...More

Imitation or Genuine?

"All the prophets were prophesying before them. Then Zedekiah said, 'This is what the LORD says' All the prophets were prophesying this as well." - 1 Kings 22:10-12 NASB

Zedekiah understood what it meant to be a prophet. He knew the vocabulary and how to deliver prophecies. In similar ways, others...More
