Lost in the catacombs

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:6

Lost in the catacombs
In 1798, French troops under the leadership of Napoleon occupied the city of Rome. In the euphoria of victory, a group of officers decided to visit the famous catacombs to have a real celbrationcelebration there. Catacombs are underground burial places connected by an extensive system of kilometre-long passages. Here, where Christian martyrs were buried and hymns were sung in the past, they wanted to drink and joke. One of the officers showed himself to be particularly adventurous. He decided to explore the dark passages that no one dared to enter without a guide. He declared that he feared neither God nor the devil, as he believed in neither. Armed only with a candle, he set off into the eerie labyrinth.

But soon he became hopelessly lost. The candle went out, and his cries were heard by no one. He wanted nothing to do with God – but God saw him!

The next morning, a search party was sent out for him. It took days until he was finally found. He was barely breathing and had to be carried out of the cave. For a long time, he hovered between life and death. But God had mercy on him and restored his health. But a healing process had also taken place in his soul. He realised that he ultimately owed his salvation to the God whom he had often mocked. He repented of his former life and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as the Saviour of his soul.

Seven years later, he was killed in battle. In his baggage, a Bible was found. Since the experience in the catacombs, it had been his greatest treasure. Thankfully, I’ve never been lost in the catacombs, but I know that every path that leads away from God is a wrong path!

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 21:1-14 · Luke 24:13-27

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
