The big questions of life

God thunders marvellously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend.

Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.

Job 37:5, 14

The big questions of life
An atheist scientist once openly admitted: “The existence of God would suit us very well!” But since he couldn’t find God with his telescope, he refused to include God in his studies for the sake of scientific accuracy. Is it any wonder he didn’t achieve satisfactory research results? Is science even suited to answer the big questions of life? It can’t provide reliable information about our origin or our future. That’s not its field. All it can offer us are vague and unproven theories. Should we then resign ourselves to not knowing anything definite about the origin of life and what happens after death?

No, for God can tell us – and He has done so in the Bible. There, He informs us how He created everything and that He is interested in us, even though we have sinned against Him and many don’t care about Him!

Whoever you are, God loves you! He is the God of peace and is rich in forgiveness (Romans 16:20; Isaiah 55:7). God, who is greater than our understanding and all human science, gave His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, so that anyone who believes in Him will receive eternal life – a wonderful and secure future!

To the scientist quoted above: If, as you say, the existence of God would suit you very well, why do you remain an atheist? Isn’t it because you would then inevitably have to bring your life into line with God’s moral requirements? And that’s what you apparently don’t want to do.

Today’s reading: 1 Chronicles 25:1-31 · 1 Timothy 2:8-15
