Thoughts on the Gospel of John (61).

Now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. You do the deeds of your father. Then they said to him, We were not born of fornication; we have one father - God. Jesus said to them, If God were your father, you would love me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of myself, but he sent me.
John 8:40-42.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (61)
If any nation on earth had least to do with immorality, then it was the Israelites. If any people claim to have God as their Father, they would be the first. But when Jesus came to earth, the truth came to light. He Himself is the infallible touchstone for religiousness. Sadly, the religious leaders of the people proved to be enemies of God, not His children. Otherwise they would have loved the One who came to them from God.

They attempted to kill Jesus and resisted the truth, thus revealing Satan's main characteristics: murder and lies. Naturally they might be descendants of Abraham, but from the moral standpoint they were children of the devil.

Pretence and reality, profession and truth can be so far apart. Today a profession of Christianity solely through baptism and communion is insufficient. We must have accepted Jesus as our Saviour and the Lord of our life to be rightfully called "children of God" (cf. John 1:12).

"We were not born of fornication" Jesus' enemies maintained. Were they intimating that Jesus was one such? How reprehensible and blasphemous would such an accusation be on Christ, who was conceived of the Holy Ghost (cf Luke 1:35).

(to be continued next Sunday)

Today's reading: Isaiah 33:1-34:17 · Hebrews 2:11-18

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

TOUCH NOT

In today's Bible reading, while David and his men were away, the Amalekites invaded Ziklag, defeated the city and set it on fire, after which they took members of their families - wives, sons and daughters as captives. When they returned and saw the situation of Ziklag, David and his men were really distressed,...More
