Carrying Jesus' Presence

Bible in a Year : Proverbs 22-24, 2 Corinthians 8

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:20

Today's Scripture & Insight : Matthew 28:16-20

Azeem was working in the supermarket café when a regular customer looked at him curiously. “They must be paying you a lot of money,” he said. “You’re always smiling.” Azeem chuckled, then told him the secret to his joy: “I’m not doing this for the company. I’m doing this for God.” Intrigued, the customer asked him to explain. Because of that conversation, the customer went to church and later became a Christian.

If you ever feel daunted by Jesus’ great commission to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), let Azeem be a reassurance to you. He wasn’t burdened by the need for evangelism; he simply went about his daily tasks knowing God was with him. That alone had a great impact. Jesus promised the original disciples, and us by extension, that He “would be with [us] always, to the very end of the age” (v. 20). Azeem knows the power of this: “I always carry Jesus’ presence with me, which can change the atmosphere in the store.”

When I picture myself carrying Jesus with me throughout the day, in all of my encounters, I can already see how I might interact with others differently. We can learn from Azeem’s example, dwelling on the glorious truth that Jesus is indeed with us through His Spirit. Jesus’ presence has the power to transform even difficult customer conversations—and our own hearts and attitudes too.

Reflect & Pray
What’s coming up today that you especially need Jesus’ presence for? What difference does it make to you to picture yourself literally ‘carrying’ Jesus with you?

Dear Jesus, thank You that You go with me. By Your Holy Spirit, transform my heart so that Your presence is obvious to all who see me today.

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More
