God, Our Loving Provider

The Lord is gracious and compassionate. He provides food for those who fear him. Psalm 111:4-5

Today's Scripture
Psalm 111:1-10

Today's Devotion
Mandy put down the phone with a heavy heart. Mom had just called to inform her that Dad might be losing his job, and the family might have to rely on her for the household expenses. Mandy felt the crushing weight of providing for her family. She held a commissioned-based job but for several months had submitted applications for employment with more stable income, yet she’d received only rejections.

Mandy shared, “As I committed my need to the Lord, I continued to go about life. Little did I realize that one catch-up lunch with a friend would turn into a job opportunity! God provided! I got the job!”

God may not always answer with the solution we hope for, like He did with Mandy. But we can all take comfort in our great Provider, who knows our needs. In Psalm 111, we’re reminded that our God is “gracious and compassionate” (v. 4). He delights to show us kindness, and He feels deep affection for us. His compassion always moves Him to act, enabling us to experience His consistent, providential care (v. 5).

Is your heart heavy? Do your circumstances frustrate you? Remember this: You are God’s personal concern. He cares about your personal, practical, and material needs. You can trust in the fatherly providence of your faithful God. He will offer you His presence today, tomorrow, and forever.

Reflect & Pray
How have you personally experienced God’s provision in your life? How will you continue to trust Him today?

Dear Father, please help me to trust that You know my needs, You care, and that You will provide.

Today's Insights
Psalm 111 presents how our “gracious and compassionate” (v. 4) God cares and provides for “those who fear him” (v. 5). We can trust Him to provide what we need, for He’s “faithful and just” (v. 7). The psalmist David says in Psalm 55 to “cast [our] cares on the Lord and he will sustain [us]; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (v. 22). The apostle Peter wrote something similar: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Paul encouraged us to “pray continually” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and reminded us that “God will meet all [our] needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). He knows our needs and desires for us to bring our concerns to Him in prayer. As we place our trust in Him, we can say with the psalmist, “to him belongs eternal praise” (Psalm 111:10).

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
