AN APPROPRIATE NAME READ: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. -Matthew 1:21 THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 22-24 John 8:28-59 The name of the southeastern Asian nation of Indonesia is formed by combining two Greek words which together mean "island." That name is appropriate because Indonesia is made up of more than 17,500 islands spanning nearly 750,000 square miles. Indonesia - appropriate name for a nation of islands. In the Bible, we find that people were often given names - sometimes at birth, sometimes later - that made a statement about them or their character. Barnabas, whose name means "son of encouragement," continually encouraged those he encountered. Jacob, whose name means "schemer," repeatedly manipulated people and situations for his own selfish ends. And no one has ever been more appropriately named than Jesus. When the angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph about Mary's soon-to-be-born Son, he told Joseph, "You shall call His Name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). Jesus means "the Lord saves" and defines both who Jesus is and why He came. He was also called Immanuel, which means "God with us" (1:23). His Name reveals our eternal hope! - Bill Crowder How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds In a believer's ear! It soothes his sorrow, heals his wounds, And drives away his fear - Newton The Name of Jesus is at the heart of our faith and hope. |

Open Heavens for Saturday, December 14, 2013 by Pastor E.A Adeboye CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU? Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More |
Open Heavens for Friday, January 10, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye SPIRITUAL WARFARE I When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More |
Open Heavens for Thursday, July 10, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye SATAN INTIMIDATES When Goliath came to the battlefield, he took the form of a big problem but he later became a big opportunity. He came as a mighty obstacle but turned into a mighty door of opportunity when God stepped in. Every giant who stands in your way this season shall become a door to your breakthrough in Jesus' Name. The...More |
