That’s what I want...
Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.
2 Thessalonians 3:5
That’s what I want too: that Jesus notices me and turns towards me. And that is exactly what He does! The Bible states: “The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men” (Psalm 33:13). That includes me!
How much I long that God would allow me to experience His love. He does that too, or rather He has done that! The good news is that God “did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all” (Romans 8:32).
God gives His very dearest for mankind, and that means me as well. Love cannot be greater than this. God means the best for me; He wants to make me happy. He is not indifferent when I torment myself, am afraid, hopelessly twist myself into knots or see no way out. He is interested in me – even if I may be indifferent to Him. His love is unconditional; it doesn’t depend on whether I love Him back. He loves me because He is love (1 John 4:8).
When God promises us His love, these are not empty words. God follows through with actions. He proved His love for me by Jesus Christ, His own Son, dying for me while I was still a sinner (Romans 5:8). Unbelievable! Yes, I had brought guilt upon myself, having no interest in God at all, even thinking I could do without Him.
But He saw me and turned toward me in His love. Now I only have to accept His offer by believing in Jesus Christ. Then I am a child of God and He gives me peace and security. But He also wants me to leave the direction of my life to Jesus. That is why the Lord Jesus said, “Come, follow me”!
