Every Day With God

After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
Genesis 5:22–24

Every Day With God
Enoch belonged to the seventh generation from Adam, whereas Noah was part of the tenth generation. Many years later, God called Abram—later Abraham—to leave Ur of the Chaldeans. The patriarch was part of the twentieth generation since Adam. As far as we are concerned, so many generations later, may we also please our Lord until He comes!

Enoch was someone who had been instructed or dedicated, as his name implies. God had been teaching Enoch for three hundred years after his son Methuselah was born, who became the oldest man on earth and died just before the flood came. As far as we are concerned, we know God’s judgment is coming, but our hope is the Lord Himself: He may come today! May we be ready and learn from Enoch how to walk with God. “After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters.” What does this mean? The birth of his firstborn son caused Enoch to walk with God, to rely on Him, to be with Him all the time, in every situation, to please Him (Heb. 11:5). This helped Enoch to teach his son about God and to be an example for him who later became the oldest man on earth.

Enoch must have learned how to introduce God into all the details of his life. For us today, this implies time we spend with our spouse and children, with our brothers and sisters, and with our coworkers. If we are retired, we can still be in touch with people, possibly even more so than before. The Lord’s desire for us is to teach the next generation, to be an example to them. God’s objective for them is that they may learn to walk with God and may do so until the Lord comes. Perhaps today!

It may be that Jehovah will look on mine affliction, and that Jehovah will requite me good for my being cursed this day. And David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast...More
