God’s Will for Us

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
Colossians 1:9–10

God’s Will for Us
I was once asked how the Christian can know what is the will of God in a world like ours, when those things that were once considered to be sin are now, by so many, judged to be quite acceptable, and even praiseworthy? Well, the answer is that we must be studying our Bibles. When Paul and Silas came to Berea, we read, “These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11).

These people not only received Paul’s message with eagerness, but went that important next step to actually look up the Scriptures he was citing just to ensure that these things Paul was telling them were consistent with the Word of God. And so it should be for Christians today! In any question about the decisions and plans for our lives, about the Church and its order, or about how we should conduct ourselves before the world, I believe that the Bible gives us all that we need for life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3–4).

God’s Word has not changed since the Scriptures were given to us. Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” The Bible was altogether true and consistent when it was inspired, and it is just as true and dependable today. Likewise, its truth is not subject to the whims of our changing times. God’s Word will guide us and will keep us from sin, but we must truly be seeking God’s mind; and if we do, the Lord will help us to know His will.

Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their...More

TOTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIRED

When we teach about tithes and first fruits, some people think that it is the pastor's way of making money but they are making a great mistake. When you put God first, He will make sure that your blessings are irreversible. But if you decide to give Him second place in your life, you may not be happy to see what...More

FACING OUR PAST

.
Like Paul,we don't need to parade our failures or to pretend they didn't happen. Instead, we can thank the Lord that through His grace and power, our past is forgiven, our presence is changed, and our future is bright with hope for all he has prepared for us. - David...More
