God’s Call (2)—The Call to Service

And God called to him out of the midst of the thorn-bush and said, Moses, Moses! And he said, Here am I.

And Moses said to the children of Israel, See, Jehovah has called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri.

Exodus 3:4 JND; Exodus 35:30 JND

God's Call (2)—The Call to Service
In our texts today, we see God's call to two men to serve Him. In a similar way, He calls believers today to serve Him, too.

In 1 Corinthians 1:1, we see that the apostle Paul describes himself as a called apostle or apostle by calling. It was not his own decision to become an apostle, but the decision of the Father. He was called to salvation (Gal. 1:15) and then he was called to service. In principle this is true for each one of us. We have been called to salvation (1 Cor. 1:24, 26) and then called to service. Today this service may involve more public service, as evangelists, teachers, and shepherds (Eph. 4:11). Or it may involve more behind-the-scenes service like "helps" (1 Cor. 12:28). We believe that this last gift is very underutilized in the Church today!

In our verses, we see Moses called out of the burning thorn-bush. This indicates the character of his service, which was to bring the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt. Today, the Lord may sometimes indicate our area of service from the beginning. At other times we must first serve in smaller roles, and if we are faithful in that which is least, we prove that we will be faithful in much (Lk. 16:10).

Bezaleel was called by Jehovah for a special work, to help in the construction of the tabernacle. At different times we may be called for a special purpose or for a special project. Let us be faithful in whatever the Lord gives us today.

Remember that sometimes we are given what may seem to us a small service, but it may be the Lord first wants to see our faithfulness in the small things before He entrusts more to us!

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
