Refreshing the Lord Jesus

He shall drink of the brook by the wayside; therefore He shall lift up the head.
Psalm 110:7 NKJV

Refreshing the Lord Jesus
Even though the Lord suffered so much, not only on the cross but also as He walked this world, yet there were some "brooks" that refreshed the Lord on the way. Let us consider some of these occasions—you may remember others as well.

—Mary sitting at the feet of the Lord, enjoying His Word (Lk. 10:38-42); and later, anointing Him with the alabaster box of precious ointment of great price (Jn. 12:1-7).

—The poor widow's offering (Mk. 12:42-44).

—The response of the Samaritan woman at the well (Jn. 4:31-32).

—The centurion who came to the Lord on behalf of his sick servant, insisting that the Lord just speak the word to heal (Mt. 8:5-13).

—The Canaanite woman who asked that her daughter be healed, even though she had no right to ask (Mt. 15:22-28).

—The Samaritan leper who was the only one who returned to give thanks (Lk. 17:16).

—Zacchaeus, who wanted to see the Lord, and is changed when he opens his door to the Lord (Lk. 19:2-10).

—Peter's confession "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Mt. 16:16).

Even though Christ is not physically here on the earth as He was then, do we not wish to refresh the Lord's heart as these others did? I am certain we all desire this. So how can we? By our actions towards Him: to listen, like Mary; worship, like Mary; sacrifice, like the poor widow; show faith, like the centurion; humble ourselves, like the Canaanite woman; give thanks, like the healed Samaritan leper; repent, like Zacchaeus; have an open heart, like Peter, receiving the things of God and making them our own. These are just to name a few. May He be pleased, may we bring joy to His heart, and may honor be brought to His Name.

Many years ago, at the first time I was leaving Nigeria for overseas, I was on my way to Canada to attend a world conference of Applied...More
