The Good and Faithful Servant (5)

When Abraham’s servant heard their words, that he worshiped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth. Then the servant brought out jewelry of silver, jewelry of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious things … And he said to them, “Do not hinder me, since the Lord has prospered my way; send me away so that I may go to my master.”
Genesis 24:52–53, 56 NKJV

The Good and Faithful Servant (5)
Let us notice three things in the above verses.

First: When the servant heard Laban and Bethuel say, “Here is Rebekah before you; take her and go, and let her be your master’s son’s wife” (v. 51), and was thus assured of the success of his mission, the first thing he did was worship the Lord who had led him on the way and had prospered his mission. Success did not elate him or fill him with pride, but on the contrary, it humbled him and filled him with gratitude to the Lord. This is a wholesome lesson for anyone serving the Lord.

Second: Having spoken of Abraham’s greatness and the fact that whatever Abraham had was given to Isaac, the servant now gives definite proof of that. He brought forth jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment and gave them to Rebekah. He gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things—practical proof of Isaac’s greatness. When we present Christ to others, let us remember that we are speaking to them of the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Creator and the only Savior.

Third: Once his mission was completed, he desired to return to his master: “Do not hinder me … send me away so that I may go to my master.” He came from his master and returned to his master’s presence, reminding us of the words of our Master: “Where I am, there My servant will be also” (Jn. 12:26). What a blessed place to be! And what a practical lesson for all who want to serve the Lord!

If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More

HAZARDING LIVES FOR MISSIONS

Within the space of a few years after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the gospel about Him had reached Rome, Alexandria, Antioch and all the great cities in Europe, Africa and Asia. The gospel had made great inroads into the aristocracy and among intellectuals, and had already changed the lives...More
