Christ Is the Foundation

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8

Christ Is the Foundation
We live in such difficult times, where it seems the entire foundation all around us is crumbling! David dealt with this same feeling about his times back in Psalm 11:3, saying, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” As David pondered the problems of the world around him, his answer was, “In the LORD I put my trust” (v. 1). He continues by reminding us that the Lord has not changed; He is still on the throne, saying, “The LORD is in His holy temple, the LORD’s throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men” (v. 4). In another place, we are told that the “eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chr. 16:9).

The verse immediately preceding today’s text instructs us to “Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct” (Heb. 13:7). Those who went before us taught us the way of righteousness; their lives and their teaching pointed us to the very One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. As William MacDonald put it, “The gist of their teaching was this: Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The goal of their lives was Jesus, the same yesterday, today, and forever. The foundation of their message was that Jesus is the Christ, yesterday, today, and forever.”

What it would be to have such a single focus for our lives! But we do! The Lord Jesus Christ is the object for our souls. This is what we have had passed down to us! The message has not changed; it is the same because He has not changed and is the same, yesterday, today, and forever! Let us take this message with us as we walk through the day!
