Carts for the Levites

And they brought their offering before the LORD, six covered carts and twelve oxen, a cart for every two of the leaders, and for each one an ox; and they presented them before the tabernacle.
Numbers 7:3

Carts for the Levites
God’s instructions for the tabernacle had been faithfully followed and all the items made ready. The details were important because they were full of spiritual meaning, being copies and shadows of heavenly things (Heb. 8:5). Many of the materials they used came as freewill offerings from the people.

The Israelites gave not only for the house of God, but for those who served in it. They saw an opportunity to provide practical help to the Levites. In a display of unity and generosity, they came together to present six covered carts for the Levites to use in the transportation of the materials for the tabernacle.

Their hearts were in the right place. The gift was for Jehovah, yet practically they were showing their support for, and solidarity with, their fellow brothers, the Levites. Moses is instructed by Jehovah to accept the gift.

Two carts went to the Gershonites, four to the Merarites, and none to the Kohathites because the latter were to carry items with poles on their shoulders (the ark, the golden altar, the table, etc.). The needs varied, yet the individual Israelites did not have to worry about the details. They saw an opportunity to help and laid out what they could provide before the Lord to be used as He saw fit.

By way of application, there are many brothers and sisters serving the Lord today who need support. The Lord will provide, and He appreciates our freewill offerings; He can use these to lighten the load of His servants. We are not all called to the same work, but we can join with other saints to provide practical assistance. “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men” (Col. 3:23).

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More

HAZARDING LIVES FOR MISSIONS

Within the space of a few years after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the gospel about Him had reached Rome, Alexandria, Antioch and all the great cities in Europe, Africa and Asia. The gospel had made great inroads into the aristocracy and among intellectuals, and had already changed the lives...More
