A Faithful Shepherd

Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20–21

A Faithful Shepherd
How full and appropriate is this lovely closing prayer of the Epistle to the Hebrews! For these troubled Hebrew believers, there was a God of peace. He had laid the firm foundation of peace in raising from among the dead this One whose heart was that of a faithful Shepherd, who is great also in the power of resurrection life. His resurrection was consistent with the preciousness of His death, and the value of the blood of the everlasting covenant was such that resurrection was the righteous result.

Here is eternal value, in contrast to all that was temporal in Judaism: the covenant is everlasting because the value of the blood is everlasting, and the blessed Shepherd lives in the power of an endless life. Wonderful fullness and perfection of blessing for His sheep! With such a provision, should not our hearts respond with real desire to be made perfect or complete in every good work to do His will?

The working out of this must be on the part of God. Our resources are all in Him, through Jesus Christ, and practical results in our lives must be the result of submission to the work of His hand. Then we shall see no credit for ourselves, but heartily ascribe to Him glory forever and ever: “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name” (Heb. 13: 15).

L. M. Grant

We know Thee now as risen, the Firstborn from the dead;
We see Thee now ascended, the church's glorious Head.
In Thee by grace accepted, the heart and mind set free
To think of all Thy sorrow, and thus remember Thee.

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
