The Son of Man (2)—Daniel 7

I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.
Daniel 7:13–14

The Son of Man (2)—Daniel 7
In the Book of Daniel chapter 7, Daniel was given a vision of the four prominent empires that would rule the earth, and in particular, over his people Israel. While in chapter 2 these same empires are seen as various metals, here in Daniel’s vision they are viewed as beasts. This would represent their character from God’s point of view. These empires largely went on in self-will, without acknowledging the true God in heaven.

However, we also find introduced in the vision One who is the Son of Man. In Daniel 2, we find Christ pictured as the Stone that will crush all the empires of men, and grow to become a great mountain that fills the earth.

Here in Daniel 7 we see the Son of Man coming before the Ancient of Days on the clouds of heaven. We see absolute dominion is given to the Son of Man. All peoples, nations, and languages are to serve Him.

In the beginning, the Lord God committed to Adam dominion over the earth. Yet we know that Adam lost this dominion when he and Eve fell into sin (Gen. 3). Other men such as Noah, Solomon, and Nebuchadnezzar were put into places of authority and rule, and yet each one failed. Even so today, every ruler has been marked by failure and sin in some way.

At last, in this Son of Man, our Lord Jesus Christ, our Father has found the Man after His own heart, to whom He can commit all rule and authority. May we submit to His authority already today!

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
