“Verily, Verily” in John (7)—Eternal Life

Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes on Me has life eternal … Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of Man, and drunk His blood, ye have no life in yourselves.
John 6:47, 53 ???

“Verily, Verily” in John (7)—Eternal Life
It has been said that in the Gospel of John, the Son of God speaks plainly. Here we find, in the same discourse with the Jews that we considered previously, where He called Himself the true manna who came down from heaven, that He now speaks plainly that everyone who believes on Him has eternal life. Probably the most well-known verse in the Word of God, John 3:16, also tells us this wonderful truth. It does not say, “whosoever does great exploits,” or “whosoever speaks great words,” but “whosoever believes” has eternal life. This, of course humbles us. It is not by our works of righteousness that we have done, but according to His mercy that He saved us (Tit. 3:5). There is something in every human heart that wants to say, “I did it, I earned it.” But no, God says, and the Lord says it is for the one who believes. This makes nothing of us, but makes everything of God’s beloved Son, who alone finished the work that was necessary both to glorify God, and also to bring us eternal salvation and eternal life. Are you still trying to earn your salvation, still trying to earn merit with God? Cease at once, and simply believe God’s testimony concerning His Son, and you will have eternal life.

In connection with this, the Lord says that we must eat His flesh and drink His blood to receive life. When we eat and drink something, it becomes part of us. We are what we eat, both physically and spiritually. This is another picture of believing. It is fully taking in all that God has said.

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More

When You Have A Vision

I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to:

(1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (113)

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honour.
John 12:25.26.
