Come to Him in Prayer

Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; incline Your ear to me; in the day that I call, answer me speedily.
Psalm 102:1–2

Come to Him in Prayer
Calling out to God is the privilege of all those who have a relationship with Him through the finished work of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. The psalmist here represents anyone who walks by faith turning to God in times of trouble. As you read through the book of Psalms, you hear this same cry over and over.

Our psalm begins with the title, “A prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed and pours out his complaint before the LORD.” As we read through Psalm 102, we get a sense of the intense pain this man feels; and as a result, he pours his heart out to the God of relationship, who cares very deeply for each of us! He wants and even invites us to come into His presence and to pour out our hearts to Him.

I am encouraged as I read through the Gospel of John and hear the invitation to come. The Lord Jesus said, “Come and see” to those who inquired as to where He dwelt (Jn. 1:39). In John 7:37 there is the invitation, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” Lastly, in John 21:12, the Lord Jesus invited His discouraged disciples, “Come and eat breakfast.”

You and I are invited to come to the Lord and pour out our hearts to Him (Ps. 62:8). He never tires of hearing our hearts. His ears are always open to hear the cries of His own! Peter reminds us to come to Him (1 Pet. 2:4) and to cast our care upon Him for He cares for us (1 Pet. 5:7). In Hebrews 4:16 we are reminded to “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” He will incline His ear to you as you pour out your heart to Him!

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And...

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
