Manna (3)—Enough for Everyone

This is the thing which the LORD has commanded: “Let every man gather it according to each one’s need, one omer.”
Exodus 16:16

Manna (3)—Enough for Everyone
The subject here is the manna, God’s food for his people, Israel, during their long journey through the desert. For us, it is Christ, “the living bread that came down from heaven” (Jn. 6:51). He is the food that God gives us for the inner man during our journey on this earth.

“This is the thing which the LORD has commanded.” Therefore, let us pay attention because God addresses the word to us. And let us not underestimate the importance of this food! The well-being of our soul depends on it. “Gather it!” Feeding on Christ cannot be done in passing or “on the go,” as it were. It is a matter of intensive study of details: His deeds and words in the Gospels, His various characteristics, names, and titles. Little by little, they will come together and form a picture, a very beautiful picture. Collecting takes effort—it requires bending down—but even in this effort there is blessing.

“Every man” was to gather. The time available is different for everyone, but this is where we are the same: we are all still on the journey, which is why every believer needs Christ as nourishment! Christ has united each one of us with Himself, so each of us can only find our resources in Him.

“According to each one’s need.” This is where we differ: the believing student has other needs than the housewife; a missionary has other needs than a retiree. But it is always Christ Himself. Let us allow the Lord to give us the appropriate food that gives us joy and strengthens us!

Our Lord, our Life, our Rest, our Shield,
Our Rock, our Food, our Light;
Each thought of Thee doth constant yield
Unchanging, fresh delight.

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
