Lessons on Asa (2)—Trusting God in Everything

Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said, "Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You."
2 Chronicles 14:11

Lessons on Asa (2)—Trusting God in Everything
After ten years of peaceful reign in Judah, Zerah the Ethiopian, came up with an army of a million men against Asa. As a king should, Asa took responsibility and got things ready for battle. But then we see him turning to God in prayer, expressing in a beautiful yet simple way his faith in God. It is through this trial that we see that the ten years of seeking the Lord were not just a nice show of piety, but that there was reality and true exercise behind it.

In his prayer, Asa recognized that whatever the situation was, it was nothing for God to give help. Whether he had relatively no power compared to his enemy, this made no difference to God. His trust and confidence were the result of all those years where he learned to know God better, and His perfect ways, and His will for His people. It is important for us to understand that. When difficulties come our way is not the time to peacefully seek God, to learn to know Him better, and to trust Him. If we do not do so in our everyday activities, when distress comes we will not be able to rest on Him as Asa did. It is not that God will abandon us. No, but we will strongly feel the waves beating and filling up the boat, as the disciples did while the Lord Jesus was asleep in the stern . So today, may we learn more about our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, and look to Him for the help we need, whatever situation we may face!
