Lessons on Asa (3)—Three Important Truths

Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.
2 Chronicles 15:2

Lessons on Asa (3)—Three Important Truths
Azariah, the son of Oded, spoke these words to Asa after the great victory they had over Zerah the Ethiopian. Asa had cried out to the Lord for His help, and his faith was greatly rewarded. He had rested on God. He had passed the test of his faith successfully.

Three important truths are presented to us in this verse. First, the Lord is with you while you are with Him. We often say to others, "May the Lord be with you," or ask the Lord to be with us in this or that circumstance. This is a nice thing to do and a good thing to ask, but we must be careful not to be misled into thinking that He is with us wherever we go. The condition of His presence is for us to be where He is. This is what Asa learned and experienced with great joy, and this is still true today. The Lord Jesus said, . May these truths warm and encourage our hearts!

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
