Beware of the Food

There were false prophets also among the people, as there shall be also among you false teachers, who shall bring in by the bye destructive heresies, and deny the Master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
2 Peter 2:1

Beware of the Food
Food poisoning is the most dreaded of all diseases of nutrition. Not only is it harmful, but it is often fatal. Any sensible person will shun food if he suspects that it is poisoned, no matter how hungry he is or how good the food appears.

For some reason, many Christians do not take the matter as seriously when it comes to spiritual food. Is the body more important than the soul? Peter gives us one of the common denominators of these false teachers when he says that they deny the Master. Jude says, "denying our only Master," and John says, "denies the Father and the Son." Peter also exposes their methods as being underhanded exploitation by false words. The sad thing is that many "shall follow their dissolute ways." But their success is short-lived because they will be "bringing upon themselves swift destruction." The way to escape the danger of spiritual food poisoning, Peter tells us, is "to be mindful of the words spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of the Lord and Savior by your apostles"—mindful of the Bible!

Paul's frequent exhortations to Timothy, his beloved son in the faith, are quite significant: "Give thyself to reading to teaching Give heed to thyself and to the teaching" (, 16). "Study to show thyself approved unto God rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings" of those who have erred concerning the truth (2 Tim. 2:15-16 kjv). May we say with the psalmist, "With my whole heart have I sought Thee: let me not wander from Thy commandments" (Ps. 119:10).

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-THE FALSE PROPHET

And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

The bankruptcy that saves

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him - for the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease for ever.

You were not redeemed with silver or gold from your aimless conduct but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and...More
