Inquiring of the Lord

Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions and when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart.
1 Kings 10:1-2

Inquiring of the Lord
Solomon had moments of great faith and also moments of great failure. In our portion we see him as a lovely type of Christ, who is the wisdom of God a href="https://www.dailydevotionalsonline.com/the-LORD-is-near-2021.php" title="But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.">(1 Cor. 1:24)<. The fame and reputation of Solomon was spoken of near and far, and this queen of the South decided to go see for herself if what she had heard was true. It was not mere curiosity that motivated her, but as we read, it was the fame "concerning the name of the Lord." What a worthy attraction for our hearts as well!

We will certainly have questions as Christians, and some of these may be "hard questions" similar to those of this queen; if we bring them to the Lord we will find Him more than willing to satisfy our hearts. She also witnessed how happy Solomon's men were (v. 8). This was not because of the splendor of what Solomon had built—this might have a momentary attraction but would get old fairly quickly. It was the joy of being in the presence of Solomon and witnessing his wisdom. Do we enjoy spending time with the Lord? If so, surely we will find that the half had not been told (v. 7).

The queen came with gifts for Solomon, and as she was relatively wealthy herself, her gifts were in keeping with what she had to offer—and King Solomon was worthy of what she gave. How much more worthy is our Lord Jesus (Lk. 11:31), and as we come before Him, may we come worshiping with praise on our lips.

"One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple" (Ps. 27:4).

It may be that Jehovah will look on mine affliction, and that Jehovah will requite me good for my being cursed this day. And David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast...More
