The Days of Noah: A Picture of What Is Coming

God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark."
Genesis 6:13-14

The Days of Noah: A Picture of What Is Coming
Early in the history of man, his guilt had become so great that God would no longer bear with mankind, and He told Noah that He would destroy the earth with a flood of waters. In view of this, He gave Noah complete instructions how he should build the ark. This would take a long time, for the ark was to have room, not only for eight human beings, but also for very many animals. During that long time as he was building the ark, Noah was "a preacher of righteousness," as we read in 2 Peter 2:5. We can imagine the mockery that Noah suffered from the unbelieving people who lived all around him. Not even one outside of his own family believed him, although they had opportunity for many years to turn to the Lord and to be accepted into the ark.

Surely this is a picture of people today, who have heard that the Lord Jesus is the only ark of safety for mankind from the judgment to come but refuse to obey. They do not believe they will suffer such judgment, even though their conscience tells them that they should not despise the longsuffering grace of God and expect to receive no recompense for their guilt. As it was in the days of Noah, so it is today. Christ is still the only way of salvation from sin.

All who have been born on earth since the flood come from Noah and his three sons and their wives. But multitudes have not followed the faith of Noah and his family, and they continue on their own way to the coming judgment. Make sure that you are in time to receive the gift of God, for "the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rom. 6:23).
