The Pride of Man Will Be Judged

The loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day, but the idols He shall utterly abolish.
Isaiah 2:17-18

The Pride of Man Will Be Judged
Of all man's many faults, his pride is the worst. One may descend to the lowest depths of moral degradation and repulsive corruption and yet pride himself on his own self-importance and his own strong, independent will. Which is worse—his moral wickedness or his lofty pride? Surely it is his pride, for this is not simply sin against his own body or sin against his neighbor, but it is the wickedness of boasting himself against God. In his ignorance he is defying his Creator, who alone is worthy to be exalted.

But what of the meticulously religious man, who observes all the outward forms of religion and draws attention to himself by his endeavors to better the world's condition, but has never known the grace of God in Christ Jesus? Such are so filled with pride that they are obnoxious to sober, thinking men. How obnoxious this is to God, who is their Creator! They virtually have become their own god, like the Pharisee, who prayed thus with himself, "God, I thank You that I am not like other men" .

He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
