Lessons on Jehoram (3)—We Always Reap What We Sow

Because you have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah to play the harlot and also have killed your brothers behold, the Lord will strike your people with a serious affliction—your children, your wives, and all your possessions; and you will become very sick with a disease of your intestines, until your intestines come out by reason of the sickness, day by day.
2 Chronicles 21:12-15

Lessons on Jehoram (3)—We Always Reap What We Sow
Jehoram had seen the life of his father, and certainly knew well about his grandfather Asa. He also came under the disciplining hand of the Lord, to no avail. We read that Ahab's daughter was his wife, and this is certainly to bring to our attention that she definitely was not a help for him to do good, but quite to the contrary (cf. ). What a sobering lesson about marrying in the Lord and not putting ourselves under an unequal yoke (2 Cor. 6:14).

Because Jehoram did not turn from his wicked ways, because he killed all his brothers, because he was leading the people into idolatry, the judgment of God was pronounced on him. Had he repented right after these serious words, he would have found mercy. But now the time came to reap what he had sown. "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap" (Gal. 6:7). This is what we call the government of God. One day or another, we always reap what we sow.

This is also a serious reminder for those who live in sin. In this life we already reap the consequences of many of our actions, but there is a day when all things will come under the perfect and righteous judgment of God. For the believer there is "the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad" (2 Cor. 5:10). But for those who are still in their sins, there will be the great white throne for the judgment of sin and eternal condemnation. Today is still the day to go to Christ and find forgiveness of sins.

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
