Attracted to Isaac

Wilt thou go with this man? And [Rebekah] said, I will go.
Genesis 24:58

Attracted to Isaac
Genesis 24 tells us the wonderful story of how a wife was obtained for Isaac; it contains many lessons for us. As the story unfolds, we hear the servant speaking about his master Abraham, and his son Isaac. He spoke in such a way that made much of the greatness of Isaac and all that belonged to him.

How is it with us? Is the Lord the subject of our conversations? Does the way that we speak about Him attract others to Him? Do we even know Him well enough to speak of Him in such a way? Rebekah heard all these things, and her heart was drawn out to the one of whom the servant spoke. So much so that, when she is asked if she is ready to go, rather than staying an additional ten days with her family, she declared her readiness to go to meet her husband without further delay. What a wonderful answer! It reminds us of the words of the Lord to His disciples and us: .

She realized that the future which lay before her as Isaac's wife could not be compared with what would otherwise have been her life—a village girl whose job was to go to the well to get water for the family. By contrast, she chose to be with the one whom God had chosen for great blessing. Her earthly connections did not hold her back and did not attract her as much as did this wonderful one of whom she had heard.

Is this not a challenge for us? Do the things of this world have a hold on us, or does Christ? Is there any comparison between what the world has to offer and what has been prepared for us for all eternity: to be forever with the Lord, in the Father's house? May this glorious hope be evident in our lives even now.
