The Origin of Satan (2)

How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High." Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.
Isaiah 14:12-15

The Origin of Satan (2)
In these verses, in a portion prophetically addressed to the king of Babylon more than a hundred years before the mighty King Nebuchadnezzar began to reign, we see the origin of one far mightier than he. In Romans 13:1 we are told that "there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God." This mighty angelic being, Lucifer, whose name means Day Star, had been set in the position of highest power, but we see in our verses above that he decided in his heart that he wanted more power and greater honor. In fact, this majestic created being wanted to be like his Creator.

Five times in these verses we see him saying, "I will." These "I wills" are direct challenges to our Creator-God and to His plan concerning the Lord Jesus, who humbled Himself and whom God has exalted to the highest pinnacle of glory. In his dreadful self-will, Lucifer rebelled against God. In his enmity to God, he led many other angels to rebel also, and as we so sadly know, led mankind astray too. His name now is Satan, meaning Adversary.

This foe's doom is sure. Hell, that place of absolute torment in total and eternal separation from God, is prepared for the devil—another of Satan's titles—and his angels (Mt. 25:41). All who refuse God's salvation through faith in Christ will share the devil's fate forever. Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior now!

. He learned that God can only use subjection of Himself, weakness in self, and dependence upon Him only.
However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
