Doing the Will of God

Then I said, Lo, I come (in the roll of the book it is written of Me) to do, O God, Thy will.

For ye have need of endurance in order that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

Hebrews 10:7; Hebrews 10:36

Doing the Will of God
Our first verse above is a quotation from Psalm 40. Here in Hebrews, the Holy Spirit confirms to us that this was a messianic psalm, written concerning the Son, the Lord Jesus. How wonderful that He, the eternal Son, ever with the Father, came into this world and became a Man in order to do the will of God. For this purpose a body was prepared for Him in which He might as Man learn obedience through the things which He suffered (Heb. 5:8).

Notice that in Psalm 40 it tells us that "ears hast Thou prepared Me" (v. 6). He came to hear and obey.

At the end of chapter 10 we find some practical exhortations. We are not to cast away our confidence in God, in spite of difficulties (v. 35). Then, we are reminded that we need to endure in doing the will of God. To do His will in a world that rejects Him, His Word, and His will is not always easy. Do we have the opened ear like our blessed Lord, always ready to hear and obey? Do we desire to put the Scriptures into practice in our personal lives, our families, and in the local assembly of Christians we meet with?

Some believers decide that it is too difficult to obey today. In particular, many give up the scriptural pattern of how believers should meet together. Will we give it up? Or will we determine to do the will of God? Notice in our verse there is a reward for those who endure in doing the will of God! What is the promise? The Lord Jesus is coming soon! "For yet a very little while He that comes will come, and will not delay" (v. 37). May we be Christians who are found proving "what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God" (Rom. 12:2) until He comes!

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-THE FALSE PROPHET

And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS

Read:

The bankruptcy that saves

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him - for the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease for ever.

You were not redeemed with silver or gold from your aimless conduct but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and...More
