The Humbled One Now in the Highest Place

The Lord is high above all nations, His glory above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God, who dwells on high, who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in the heavens and in the earth?
Psalm 113:4-6

The Humbled One Now in the Highest Place
Feeble indeed is our perception of the infinite magnitude of the glory of God. His glory is high above all heavens. He dwells in light unapproachable. His magnificent splendor is such as to bow angels in prostrate adoration, even though they had seen only partial visions of His glory and not His blessed face, as they do now in the Person of His Son (1 Tim. 3:16).

Only to look on the heavens and the earth required that this great God should humble Himself. Then how much greater humbling it was that He "bowed the heavens also, and came down with darkness under His feet and He was seen upon the wings of the wind" (2 Sam. 22:10-11). God incarnate came to this earth in the blessed Person of the Babe in Bethlehem's manger. Marvelous mystery of grace! What lowly, willing self-humiliation we see of the blessed Lord of glory in all His life on earth!

But more, even as Man, "He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross" (Phil. 2:8). Indeed, "Who is like the Lord our God!" No one would ever be willing to humble himself like that, nor would it ever be possible. The highest place belongs to God alone, and for our sakes He has come down to take the lowest place, enduring suffering and agony beyond all our minds can conceive.

But now, as Man, He is upon the throne of God in the highest place. Eternal praise and honor and power and glory are His. With thankful hearts, we take a place before Him of lowliest humility and of worshiping adoration. For all eternity, our hearts will never cease to overflow with His praise.
