God’s Love Makes Us Overcomers

This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
1 John 5:3-4

God's Love Makes Us Overcomers
Mere assertions of love for God while ignoring His expressed will can be nothing but hypocrisy. The love of God is not merely love for God, but God's love having entered the heart and producing a fitting response. The proof of it, therefore, is in my keeping His commandments, and love will fully agree that His commandments are not burdensome.

If one were merely serving God for wages, he might feel this is an irksome service, but serving with a heart of love will find no resentment present. The servant who accused his master of being hard and austere was himself hard and cold, and did nothing for his master (Lk. 19:20-26). He disobeyed because he callously and falsely imputed his own cold character to his master, who was actually characterized by love and grace.

Love is the very spirit of overcoming; and the soul born of God possesses that blessed energy of God's pure love that surmounts all the world's barriers. This love is not defeated by the obstacles that an unbelieving world erects with the very intention of discouraging faith. Every believer is in principle an overcomer. Let us therefore be overcomers in practice also. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world with its innumerable temptations. Since we possess faith, let us therefore use it consistently. If unbelief argues that the difficulties in the path of faith are too great, faith simply responds, "I believe God."

Thus faith and love work hand in hand: They are a team of living joy and strength. This faith is not a mysterious, elusive thing that only some unusual saints are able to grasp. The believer in Jesus as the Son of God overcomes the world.

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

Down the line, God had to intervene to enable Jacob eat the fruit of his labour. For a reader of this devotional, in every area that you...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Bible in one year:
