A Free Offer of Spiritual Riches

I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
Rev. 3:18

A Free Offer of Spiritual Riches
This was written to the angel of the assembly in Laodicea. That assembly claimed to be rich, but the Lord says they were poor. Therefore He counseled them to buy from Him gold purified by fire. This can be bought "without money and without price," but they must give up their boasting in riches if they are to have the true riches. Gold speaks of the glory of God, and purified by fire emphasizes His absolute holiness, which involves His love of what is good and His hatred of evil. Does this mean anything to us? If we do not have such riches, we are utterly poor. God desires us to be possessors of these riches.

"White garments" are a contrast to the "filthy rags" that speak of man's righteousnesses (Isa. 64:6), in which Laodicea was boasting. The white garments speak of Christ, who is Himself "the righteousness of God"—the only clothing satisfying to God. Anything else is nakedness in His sight and will eventually be exposed with shame and humiliation.

"Eye salve" for anointing the eyes symbolizes the anointing of the Holy Spirit of God, which alone can take away the blindness of man's natural unbelief. This, of course, is unobtainable by anything less than true faith in the eternal God. Who could possibly be content to go out of this world into eternity not knowing where he is going because of the blindness he has chosen?

All of this draws our attention to the majestic greatness of the eternal God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father is especially seen in the gold purified by fire, the Son pictured in the white garments, and the Holy Spirit in the anointing of the eye salve. Wonderful provision!

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More
