Christ Our Savior (1)—A Wonderful Savior

God is my rock, in Him will I trust—my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my Savior: Thou wilt save me from violence.

Besides Me there is no savior.

And all flesh shall know that I, Jehovah, am thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

2 Samuel 22:3; Isaiah 43:11; Isaiah 49:26

Christ Our Savior (1)—A Wonderful Savior
How wonderful the fact that we have a Savior! With the Lord's help we hope to look at some of the scriptures that speak of the Lord Jesus as our Savior. Often in the Old Testament (as in our first verse above) the ideas of salvation and a savior are connected with deliverance from flesh and blood enemies. David, first in his running from Saul, and later as king of Israel, certainly could appreciate Jehovah as his Savior in this way. No doubt both reader and writer have experienced such deliverances as well. From car wrecks, health issues, and other such things, our God still delivers us today and preserves us from the many dangers in this world. From our verses in Isaiah we see that God alone is the Savior of His people. He may use others, as in the book of Judges where some of the judges raised up of God were called a "savior," for example Othniel and Ehud (Judg. 3:9, 15).

As we come to the New Testament, however, we find that the thought of a Savior and His salvation is connected with salvation from our sins and from our spiritual enemies. The first announcement of the Lord Jesus, in Matthew 1:21, tells us, "He shall save His people from their sins." What a wonderful Savior He is!

Praise the Savior, ye who know Him,

Who can tell how much we owe Him?

Gladly let us render to Him

All we have and are.

BROKENNESS

In your relationship with God, one place you need to get to is the place of brokenness. To be broken is to have some form of injury that makes the object less than a whole. In spiritual parlance, it is to break or subdue the flesh in order to be more profitable to the kingdom of God. Why do you need to be broken?...More

DELIVERANCE: DIVINE ASSURANCE

When God speaks, that settles it. He reigns forever. When He gives a decree, it is forever. When He says "surely", it means surely. When He says surely, it will be well with me, nobody can change it. He says surely, by His stripes I am healed, and nobody can change this. He says surely, everything I do shall...More
