The Lord Is Our Inheritance: Let Us Serve Him Freely!

The priests, the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and His portion. Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the Lord is their inheritance, as He said to them.
Deuteronomy 18:1-2

The Lord Is Our Inheritance: Let Us Serve Him Freely!
All the tribe of Levi had been set apart by God to be occupied with the service of the sanctuary and the things of God. Consequently, the Lord Himself was going to take care of them. They were not given any inheritance in the land, but only cities to dwell in. No land to possess and take care of. The Lord was their inheritance and He took care of them by means of ordinances that, if heeded, would provide for all their needs. God wanted the Levites to be free from any earthly entanglements or worries to be readily and freely available for His service, whatever it would be. They had to be and were called to be occupied with God's things and to attend to God's service.

And so it is for all who are in Christ. They have no part in this world; their inheritance is in Christ: "In [Christ] also we have obtained an inheritance" (Eph. 1:11). As God's children they are heirs, "heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ" (Rom. 8:17).

How much the Lord would like to impress this on each of His own; to have our eyes on "those things which are above, where Christ is," not seeking or entangling ourselves "with the affairs of this life," so as to please Him "who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works" (Col. 3:1; 2 Tim. 2:4; Tit. 2:14). This is why He gives us an inheritance in Him, so that we do not look at or miss the things of this earth; instead, our hearts having their treasure above, we have liberty to serve the Lord with peace, zeal, and joy, walking in the "good works, which God prepared beforehand" (Eph. 2:10). May it be of great encouragement for us today to look above and freely serve the Lord as we await His soon coming!

One of themselves, a prophet of their own, has said, Cretans are always liarsThis testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them severely, that they may be sound in the faith.

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
