Intercession

Abraham still stood before the Lord. And Abraham came near and said, would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
Genesis 18:22–23

Intercession
God visits Abraham and tells him what He is going to do with the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. Due to their grave sins, judgment is to befall them. What does Abraham do now? He remains standing before the Lord. His heart is burdened because his nephew Lot lives in Sodom. What will become of him when God punishes this city?

Abraham begins to pray for Lot. He doesn’t mention him by name, but he intercedes persistently for the righteous in Sodom and Gomorrah. With a deep trust in God’s justice and mercy, Abraham asks for the city to be spared from judgment if there are at least ten righteous people in Sodom. Then the Lord gives him the promise, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.”

God also takes believers into His confidence today and tells them what His plans are for the world. From the Bible we know that a terrible judgment will come upon the people of the earth, after the Lord Jesus has come to rapture believers to heaven. We think of our relatives, work colleagues and neighbours who do not yet have peace with God.

Don’t we want to go before God like Abraham and ask Him to save these people? Let us call on Him for mercy and grace! Let us trustingly ask Him to work in their hearts and consciences so that they will repent and believe in the Lord Jesus!

Today’s reading: Haggai 2:15-23 · Mark 12:1-12

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More

Going from childhood to adulthood is a transition that requires a lot of wisdom and love. Your teen will feel and behave child-like sometimes, and adult-like other times. Your job is to realize that whatever their status, they will become a man (woman)...More
