The most important question

My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
Matthew 27:46

The most important question
Who asked this profound question? It was the Lord Jesus Christ during the three hours of darkness on the cross.

He is the eternal Son of God, who is in the bosom of the Father and possesses the Father’s favour.
He is the Creator of heaven and earth, who sustains everything by His omnipotence.
He is the pure, sinless man who never committed a sin in His entire life.
From the manger in Bethlehem to the cross at Calvary, He lived in perfect accordance with the will of God. Every thought, every word, every glance, every movement of the Lord Jesus was for the great joy of His God and Father.

This One cried out in deepest distress on the cross: “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?” Did God actually turn away from the only sinless man? Did He close His ears to the cry of the Lord Jesus, who always did the will of His Father? Yes, as incomprehensible as this is to us, God did it.

Why? Because Christ took my place! Because He bore the punishment for my sins and was made sin for me. My sinful nature and all my injustices were laid upon the Saviour. He suffered in divine judgment for what I am and what I have done. He did it out of love for me, to redeem me. For this, He deserves my heartfelt thanks!

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 27:1-11 · Romans 3:1-8

Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More

KEEP YOURSELF HUMBLE

Several years ago, I was on a visit to a parish of our church in Ilesha (a town in southwest Nigeria) on the same day that a Bible Study was to take place. Because I wanted to be blessed, I sat down in the congregation waiting for the Bible study teacher to commence the lesson for the day. However, an overzealous...More
