Trust brings peace

Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.
Psalm 62:8

Trust brings peace
David was on the run from King Saul for many years. The Bible records this in the Old Testament, in the first book of Samuel. Often, he didn’t know where to spend the night or what he was going to eat the next day. Added to this was the sad experience that he couldn’t trust everyone.

In this situation, David learned to trust in God. Because he could neither solve his problems on his own nor solve them with the help of others, he took refuge in God: “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him” (verse 5).

From his experiences with God, he recommends to us: “Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.”

This Bible verse became particularly important to me once. I sat in the living room, downhearted, pondering my problems at work. I was going round in circles mentally because I was at my wits’ end.

Then I got down on my knees and began to pour out my heart to God. I told Him everything – not only the difficulty I couldn’t cope with but also my fears and apprehensions.

As I prayed, God reminded me of the verse from a psalm: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye” (Psalm 32:8). Suddenly, I realised that God also has a way for me when I don’t know what to do. With this thought, peace returned to my heart.

Today’s reading: Joshua 2:14-24 · 1 Corinthians 1:18-31

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
