The right standard

But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
2 Corinthians 10:12

The right standard
A little boy came to his mother and said, “Mum, I’m almost as tall as Goliath now. I’m nearly three metres!”

“No way!” the mother replied with a smile. “How did you figure that out?”

“I made my own measuring stick, you know. When I measured myself with it, I was almost three metres tall.”

Don’t we often do the same thing? We measure ourselves by our own standards – like some in Corinth who measured themselves by themselves and compared themselves with themselves. God calls such people foolish.

Many people use their own standards to judge their behaviour toward God. The result they come up with pleases them. They are satisfied with themselves and think that God has to accept them because of their good conduct. However, His standard will lead to a different outcome: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

When we acknowledge this divine judgment of ourselves and humble ourselves before God, we can expect His grace. Through faith in the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, we are saved and receive the forgiveness of sins. Now we stand in a new position before God. He no longer sees us as lost sinners but as justified ones who are holy and blameless.

“He has perfected forever those who are … sanctified”.

(Hebrews 10:14)

Today’s reading: 2 Chronicles 9:1-12 · Revelation 1:1-11

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More

APPLY THE KEY

Every blessing worth its salt requires a key without which the seeker cannot access it. While some people have never experienced open doors, others once did, but the doors hitherto opened to them have been shut. In
