We may well wonder why the eternal, holy God abandoned the,,,

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Psalm 22: 1.

We may well wonder why the eternal, holy God abandoned the Saviour of the world at the cross.

The Lord Jesus had glorified His Father during His entire life. Now it was a question of glorifying God in his death. He had not to do with His Father as such, but with God, who must judge sin. Christ, who had glorified the Father through His life of obedience, glorified God by dying, having become obedient unto death on the cross. And not only that: at the cross our sins were laid upon Him, the pure, sinless One.

Then and there the divine Judge met Him, and God had to abandon the faithful, obedient Servant. He had to turn his face away from the One bearing our sins and being made sin for us. For the Lord it was His God, whom He neither could nor wanted to give up. He held firmly to Him, crying out: "My God, my God ." But He added the question, "Why have you forsaken me?" It was not as the Son of the Father, but as the Son of man that He exclaimed these words. In those three hours of darkness, and only then, did God forsake His obedient Servant, the Man Jesus Christ.

We bow in worship before the unfathomable greatness of the Person of our Saviour, who was both God and Man. Had He not become Man, He could not have helped us. And because He remained God, He accomplished a work of redemption that satisfied all God's claims and will remain a work of infinite worth in all eternity.

TRANSFORMED BY THE NEW CREATION

One of the most profound wonders you will find anywhere in the world is the wonder of a transformed life. When a person who was demon-possessed suddenly becomes a vessel unto honour, what wonder can be greater than this? Such a person remains a wonder throughout his or her lifetime. This was the testimony of Mary...More
