Seek what is above!

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:1.

Seek what is above!
On our conversion we underwent a positional change. We no longer belong to the godless world surrounding us, but stand in a relationship to the sphere of heaven. The apostle Paul refers to this fundamental change that God has brought about: "If then you were raised with Christ "

The word "if" does not indicate a possibility that may be true or untrue. Paul presents our Christian standing in connection with this new sphere as a definite fact, so that practical effects can result from it in our daily life. He continues therefore: "Seek those things which are above, where Christ is." We must orientate our inner being according to the sphere of heaven, so that it influences the way we lead our life.

Christ at God's right hand is the central and focal point of heaven, on whom we need to fix our eyes by faith, for He deserves all our attention.

If Christ in heaven has our affection, we shall desire to live on earth as pleases Him. Instead of following worldly opinions in matters of this life, we shall ask the Lord Jesus what His thoughts on the subject are. On the one hand we find basic directions in the Bible for our Christian life. On the other, being dependent on the Lord, we discover how He wishes to guide us in individual instances.

Today's reading: Exodus 14:15-31 · Luke 6:31-38

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
(Luke 24:26-27)

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
