Knowing the love of God
Which of us has not encountered anxiety, worries, troubles and suffering in life? Those who are true believers are happy to know that it is not blind fate that brings about the circumstances of our existence by chance. God Himself, who is omniscient and omnipotent, indeed watches over our lives, pursuing a plan for each of His creatures. The Bible gives us examples of people who suffered much though close to God. We are not the only ones to meet with suffering. Job said: "I have been allotted months of futility, and wearisome nights have been appointed to me" (ch. 7:3). Jacob had to acknowledge that his initiative, often acted upon without taking God's will into account caused bitterness. He concluded: "Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life" (Genesis 47:9).

The circumstances of our life that we judge to be adverse or favourable have been permitted by God, who is light, but also love (1 John 4:8). He often wishes to speak to us to draw us closer to Himself by means of what we term adversity. Let us learn to turn to Him in every situation. For those who have received His forgiveness and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, knowing the love of God is the foundation and sense of their life. To find help in their trials they can count on divine goodness and wisdom.
