The conversion of a Chinese lady

Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.
John 8:12.

The conversion of a Chinese lady
A young Chinese lady recounted the following:

"One day I had heard a preacher make the following comparison: ‘If we leave a piece of wood in a dark place, all kinds of insects will hide underneath it. But if we expose it to the light, they will all flee, for they hate the light. It is the same with our heart: if Jesus, the light of the world, does not dwell there, it is in darkness, hiding all sorts of bad thoughts. But from the moment we receive Christ, and with Him the light, our bad thoughts disappear.'

From my childhood I had been afraid of insects. One day when I was playing croquet in the garden, I saw a stone in the grass that reminded me of the preacher's comparison. So I pushed the stone away with my mallet and picked it up. A big lizard, a centipede and numerous small insects immediately dispersed. A voice inside me said: ‘You are like that stone, smooth and white outside, but full of sin inside.'

I understood what a hypocrite I was, pretending to uphold Chinese traditions of love, justice and virtue, and I had the conviction that I was a sinner. I dropped my mallet and ran to my room. I knelt down by my bed and prayed: ‘Lord, forgive my sin and help me to understand your Word.' I stood up again, blushing and with my heart beating fast. I had at last found peace!"

Today's reading: Jeremiah 9:1-26 · Luke 21:29-38

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
