The most suitable moment

They have turned their back to me, and not their face. But in the time of trouble, they will say, Arise and save us.

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation?

Jeremiah 2:27; Hebrews 2:3.

The most suitable moment
A Christian once told his unbelieving neighbour: "To be saved, it is not enough to say, ‘My God!' when you fall off a ladder." The number of those who cry to God instinctively for help when they are afraid, and forget Him when the danger has passed, is great indeed. In military combat, in planes or boats in perilous situations, in different calamities and catastrophes, how many appeals, silent or uttered in words are expressed in this way! But is there genuine faith behind them? God knows. He could often say, "You have turned your back on me, and now you need my help?"

If that is your case, I should like to invite you to turn to God and pray to Him simply and uprightly. The Bible says, "Now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). But the day of salvation will not last for ever! God is holding out His gracious hand now, but He will ever be the holy God. Before Him no-one will be able to find excuses or justify himself for refusing to believe. The time may come when it is no longer possible to turn to Him, because the day of grace will have ended, and also because you have hardened your heart. We must believe today and pray to Him, saying, "I am coming just as I am." Do not despise God's appeals, when He is offering you salvation.

"Seek the LORD, while he may be found, call upon him while he is near" (Isaiah 55:6)

Today's reading: Jeremiah 11:1-23 · Luke 22:14-30

The Psalmist prayed, Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting' (Psalms 139:23-24 NKJV). If you're wise you'll...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
