A few years ago the fog over the...

We walk by faith, not by sight.

Without faith it is impossible to please Him (God).

2 Corinthians 5:7; Hebrews 11:6.

A few years ago the fog over the English Channel was so thick that we could not see the water around us. But our ship stayed on its course. Radar indicated what was ahead of us. The screen showed the track of a ship before us. Radar penetrated the fog, making the ship visible.

Faith is, similarly, a kind of radar that ensures security against the unknown in the clouds of our difficulties.

Faith does not argue; it simply believes what God has said. When it is a question of the creation of the universe, for example, faith recognises that the worlds cannot be the product of chance, but were created by a word from God. That gives faith assurance.

By contrast, the countless hypotheses propounded to rule out any thought of a Creator-God cause uncertainty since they contradict one another. Behind them all is the devil's intention of misleading people to distrust God and prevent them coming to any relationship with Him. Since the Garden of Eden his language has always been: "Has God indeed said ?" (Genesis 1:3).

Faith is not some form of auto-influence nor a vague feeling based on spontaneous sentiments. It is the conviction of God's existence and the truth of what He says. God has spoken, and He still speaks today by means of the Bible, and His Word is truth (cf. John 17:17).

Today's reading: Jeremiah 13:1-27 · Luke 22:39-46

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Always Be Humble

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
