Sing a new song to the Lord

Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! For he has done marvellous things.

Sing his praise in the assembly of saints.

Psalm 98:1; 149:1.

Sing a new song to the Lord
Each of the 150 psalms in the Bible was composed by a writer at a particular stage in his life. The thoughts and reflections expressed there help us to understand situations that we pass through nowadays. They also lead us to have confidence in God and praise Him. But who has never stumbled over expressions like "LORD, I have loved the habitation of your house" (Psalm 26:8), or "Preserve me, o God, for in you I put my trust" (Psalm 16:1), judging oneself unworthy of such thoughts?

Certain psalms or extracts even express the thoughts of the perfect Man, Jesus Christ. If He alone was able to utter them and truly live them out, everyone can read them before God in a prayerful spirit. But in view of such perfection and expressions that surpass our life of faith let us stand still to listen to Jesus, the One without equal. In silence we shall forget ourselves and behold what Jesus experienced in His heart, especially in His sufferings, but also in His life as a perfect Man and worshipper. Some psalms relating to Him will then sound new, more convincing and forceful. Let us go over each psalm slowly, re-discovering them one by one in the light of Christ, and let us sing a new song unto the Lord! Let us sing His praise! In this way Jesus invites us to enter into His thoughts, His prayers and intercession. The psalms are surely also for us and our blessing and benefit.

Today's reading: Jeremiah 22:13-30 · Luke 24:44-53

The only true attitude for the Christian is that of dependence...

I am come from heaven, not that I should do My will, but the will of Him that has sent Me.
(John 6:38)

The only true attitude for the Christian is that of dependence. The moment we get off the ground of dependence on God we are sure to come to grief. This is true both individually...More

Are You Feeling Insecure? (3)

The Lordsaid to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth." '
Jeremiah 1:9 NIV

The people God calls usually start out feeling ill-equipped and insecure. Indeed, if you jumped and said, No problem, Lord, I can handle that,' He wouldn't call you at all. You say, but I've made so many...More

CO-PILOT USED SKY DEVIL' LOG IN

Be reminded that evidence from the cockpit voice recorder suggests that Mr. Andreas Lubitz, 27, the killer co-pilot of GERMAN WINGS FLIGHT 9525 locked the cock pit door when Capt Patrick Sondenheimer, 34, also of Dusseldorf city, left for a toilet break and used controls to override the entry code, crashing the plane...More
