Prayer and speaking

We will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.
Acts 6:4.

Prayer and speaking
After the apostles had been freed from the task of distributing material support for Christians who were suffering or in need, they could again devote themselves exclusively to the duty with which the Lord had entrusted them. As His witnesses they were to preach repentance and the forgiveness of sins in His Name (cf. Luke 24:47.48).

It is conspicuous that they mentioned not only the ministry of the Word in today's text but prayer also. This comment is of significance to us today who serve the Lord.

Every occasion to minister the Word of God must be accompanied by prayer. This will keep the speaker dependent on God and make the preaching fruitful.

The order (prayer before ministry) is noteworthy: speaking in seclusion with God, whom we cannot deceive, precedes speaking publicly to others.

Prayer is a powerful weapon in the struggle against the power of the devil. In view of the resistance we are up against we take refuge in our omnipotent God.

By praying we resort to the source of strength and wisdom. From it we can draw constantly, so that we fulfil our task with endurance and deal suitably with our listeners.

In this matter the Lord Jesus is the supreme example: early in the morning He prayed to His God before beginning His service among people in Israel (Mark 1:35).

Today's reading: Jeremiah 31:15-26 · Romans 5:11-16

ACCEPTED TIME 2

God is never too early and He is never too late. His timetable is set on purpose; the purpose is not only for your sake but also for His. In all things, His name shall be glorified. No doubt, He would have been glorified healing Lazarus of his sickness, but this can't compare to raising him from the dead after four...More

IMPEDIMENTS TO PRAYER

Read:
. He is looking for those who are ready and committed to walking in His footsteps. God is holy, and He has called us to holy living. We are to do as He commands because we are the light of the world. God in Heaven is glorified when our light shines in the midst of the darkness of this world. If you...More

Standing in the limelight

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern for all who are going to believe on him for everlasting life.
1 Timothy 1:15.16.
